How it works

The 10:10 Project is a resource to bring men together and go deeper in a way which is relevant to men. Here’s how it works:

  • Gather a group of men, ideally monthly.
  • Choose a film from our film bank by film or theme.
  • Watch our Session Video so that the group know what they are watching, and why, so that they know what to look out for during the film.
  • Watch the film together.
  • Watch our short Session Recap Video to refresh the group of the session theme before using our discussion questions to facilitate conversation.

Our User Guide below takes you through the logistics using The 10:10 Project and how to make the most of the materials.

Our Code of Conduct ensures all participants are on the same page and get the most out of their time together.

Welcome to  The 10:10 Project User Guide. This guide is designed to make using The 10:10 Project straightforward and effective.

While the concept is simple, the Code of Conduct outlines the keys all participants should agree to in order to make your sessions the most effective:

  • Consistency and commitment. Meeting consistently builds the familiarity and trust required for in-depth and honest conversation. Commitment by all to attend the majority of sessions is key due to the trust that is built up session by session. Dipping in and out does not work.
  • Watch the Session Video. This video provides the context for the whole session. It tells you what to look out for during the film and prepares you for the discussion. Without which the discussion is impaired and does not achieve the depths we are aiming for.
  • Watch the film – even if you have seen it before. Watching the film together is part of the experience and shared journey. Men need to hang out before they can speak out. For a productive discussion the film needs to be fresh in our minds having all watched it from the perspective outlined in the Session Video. It is particularly important to watch films we have already seen before with fresh eyes from this particular ideas in mind  and not from memory.
  • Watch the Recap Video. Before discussing the questions, watch our short Recap Video to refresh yourself as to the specific session themes.
  • Arrive on time. We are journeying together. Respect others by arriving on time so the group can start together and finish punctually. Missing the Session Video or the beginning scenes of the film negatively impacts the subsequent discussion for others. We give mutual attention to the film so that we can give mutual attention to the discussion and each other.
  • Speak up. It is important that everyone contributes to the discussion. You are encouraged to step out of your comfort zone because it is fundamental that everyone shares from their personal experiences and volunteers a response without necessarily been asked to. Those who are naturally more talkative, ensure you give others space to speak and invite them to do so. Internal processors must also contribute externally to the discussion. If others are willing to share, it is important that you reciprocate.
  • Confidentiality. What is shared in the group, stays within the group – unless someone is at risk (see User Guide). Because we can often be restrained by what is socially acceptable, with some topics seemingly off limit, confidentiality is essential to deliberately build an environment where you can share openly and respectfully in a way in which you cannot necessarily in other spaces and where you know others have got your back.
  • Respect. Other peoples’ experiences and opinions may be different from yours. We disagree respectfully, avoiding aggression or passive aggression in order to create an environment where all can share freely.
